What to expect before attending an event or arranging a group visit.
Where we are
We are based in Coverdale, near Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire. Exact directions, parking and arrival information are sent to everyone who books.
Please follow the directions supplied with your booking rather than relying only on a postcode or satnav, as rural routes and entrances can be misleading.
A working farm
The farm has livestock, moving machinery, uneven ground, mud, gates and rapidly changing weather. Activities may change when animal welfare, farm work or unsafe conditions require it. We will tell booked visitors about significant changes as early as possible.
Moorhen is not a petting farm, play attraction or general visitor centre. Visits are small, guided and connected to the actual work, land and programme of the farm.
Access information
Every event page explains the distance involved, gradients and surfaces, toilets, handwashing, seating, shelter, parking, clothing and level of physical activity. Photographs and measurements will be added to the detailed Access Information page.
Some routes cross uneven or sloping ground and may include mud, grass, gravel, steps and gates. Where possible, we can shorten or adapt a route, provide more seating, offer a quieter arrival or create an alternative indoor or yard-based activity.
Support workers, babies and family members are welcome at suitable events. Please contact us before booking if there is anything that would make your visit easier or more comfortable.
What to bring
Sturdy footwear suitable for uneven or muddy ground
Warm and waterproof layers, even when the forecast appears settled
Sun protection and drinking water in warmer weather
Any medication, mobility aid, communication support or sensory items you need
A phone, camera or notebook when the event includes a creative activity
Children, dogs and assistance
Children are welcome at events described as family-friendly and must remain with their responsible adult. Because livestock live and move around the site, visiting dogs are not permitted unless an event listing specifically says otherwise. Please contact us in advance about assistance dogs so we can plan safely around cattle and the route.
